🏆 MOTM – James Lovell

Today we hosted Division 2 champions Redhouse FC and were expecting a tough, close and competitive game based on last years form. With a few regular players missing and a series of trialists joining the squad, the management team opted to try a different formation…

With what must have been 1 or 2 minutes on the clock, we found ourselves 1-0 up with a high press winning the ball off the Redhouse defence and James Lovell tapping in from close range.

This set the tone of the first half with Priory playing great football from defence to midfield and creating chance after chance. The front two of James Lovell and Craig Smith working well off of eachother and bringing Damien Gwandezi into attacks which resulted in two close range finishes for both Damien and Craig.

Lovell scored again and Luigi converted a penalty after a Redhouse consolation goal where their striker had too much time in the box. 5-1 at half time.

We started the second half just as strongly as we finished the first, the goal of the game came as Lovell layed off to Luke Robinson just outside the box, who struck a long drive across the keeper in the bottom corner.

Redhouse then scored a penalty of their own as Tommo got caught at 6s and 7s and fouled the Redhouse player. Another penalty this time missed by Luigi and he followed up the rebound making no mistake.

We then made 3 changes with 2 of them getting on the scoresheet, Jake Squire with a great finish from an tight angle and Dave Palmer tapping in from close range after the keeper made a terrific close range save from Jake.

A brilliant and dominant performance from the Vale lads today.
