Table Topping Clashes In Both Divisions In Title Race Run In – Week 25 Preview

Premier Division

Tomorrows games for Spectrum and Bassett Bulldogs will be their final league games of the 2016/17 season.

Spectrum, who had their bottom spot placing confirmed last weekend, take a visit to Swindon Spitfires in their last act of the season. It has been a disaster of a season for Spectrum and with only 1 win and 1 draw all season, they will be playing purely for pride this weekend.

They line up against mid-tabled Spitfires who can still climb a few places up the table as they have a number of games left to play compared with teams around them.

3rd placed Bassett Bulldogs also have their final outing as they host current leaders, and favourites for the title, Tawny Owl.

A win for the Bulldogs will see themselves secure 3rd spot as a minimum, but they could also top the table this weekend. However, Owl and Deers Leap still have a number of games in hand over them so 3rd place is likely to be their target for the season.

A win for Tawny will all but see them win the league as they will open up a 4 point lead as with 3 games in hand over their closest challengers.

Sports Central play FC Dorcan in a mid-table battle. A win for Central could see them in with a shout of a 3rd placed finish but a win for Dorcan will see them go ahead of Central with 2 games to go.

The final game has North Swindon WMC play Swindon Centurians and with both teams having scored 4 goals against Spitfires in their previous games, this could be an interesting and open game.

Division One

A huge clash this weekend sees 2nd placed Sport 4 Pinehurst  face 3rd placed Lower Stratton.

It was Stratton who ended Pinehurst’s 10 game winning streak last weekend with a 2-1 victory so this weekend’s return fixture is a massive top of the table, 6 pointer clash.

A win for either side will see them head up the league table and a loss will surely end their dreams of winning the league.

Old Town United continue their push for the league title against a struggling Marlborough Res side and, with 6 points between them and top spot, and with at least 2 games in hand, a win could see them as looking like favourites for the top spot.

New Town All Stars entertain Core Construction and with both sides on 25 points in mid-table, this should be a close encounter.

Chiseldon, who are only two points off bottom spot, face Haydon Wick who are one place above them in the league even though they are clear by 9 points.

Chiseldon will be desperate for the win as a loss could hand the incentive to current bottom side, Swindon AFC, to moving off the bottom spot for the first time all season with just a few games to go.
