Tawny Owl Move One Step Closer to Second League Title

The reigning Premier Division champs Tawny Owl are on their way to a second consecutive league title after beating Bassett Bulldogs 2-0 this weekend.

This result now moves them within two points of the number one spot after goals from Dave Slattery and Lewis Waldon secured them another 3 points.

Tawny remain in second position, but have five games in hand over current leaders Deers Leap so it’s looking very positive for them going into the last few weeks of the season.

They will now be focusing on their Wiltshire FA Junior Cup final against Trowbridge & District League Division One club, Luxol St Andrews at Westbury United’s Meadow Lane ground.

“It would be brilliant if we could win the county cup,” said Tawny boss Anthony Pascarella, whose club are also into the final of the Swindon Advertiser Cup alongside Division One side Old Town United.

We won it before we took a year out (in 2015 when we were Fratellos) and we missed out last year.

“The county cup is always the harder one to win because you are playing sides you do know too much about.

“We know that they (Luxol) will be a good side, they are going well in their league and have also reached a cup semi-final and this final.”

When speaking about their opponents, Pascarella added: “Their keeper was outstanding.

“We had a number of chances, we either just couldn’t finish or their goalie made some fantastic saves.”

With two cup finals around the corner and their league position looking so positive, Tawny Owl could very well be 2016/17 treble winners, so watch this space…
