Committee Roles

This is the page where you can look and see which vacancies we have on the management committee. Volunteers are always welcome irrespective of positions being filled, as there is plenty of support required and we remain conscious of the needs for succession planning. All roles are honorary and receive a token honorarium after the end of the season depending on the balance sheet of the league and acceptance of the accounts at AGM.

The committee roles cover:

President

Chairperson

General Secretary

Treasurer

Registrations Secretary

Results Secretary

Referee Appointments Secretary

Discipline Secretary

Cup Secretary

Club Liaison Officer

Welfare Officer (new)

Long standing ex-committee members are appointed as Honorary Vice Presidents.

So, will I be comfortable in a committee. Well it all boils down to Communication

That’s the most important bit of a committee post. If you aren’t up for this a ‘formal’ committee post is not for you. Having said that if you are happy to help in any way that doesn’t require top admin skills, e.g. I’m artistic at editing tweets with gifs, I can organise tournaments, I’m great at getting sponsors for my club then YES, WE DO WANT YOU.   😊

You will be asked to set your phone/tablet/laptop to check league emails (we have sdfl.something email addresses that you will be asked to use) and acknowledge them as soon as possible. There can be a lot of league business you can park for a few days, but you must commit to responding to clubs or officials promptly.

Email passwords are recorded by us so anyone can stand in for you if you are away. Simple – “I’m off for a few weeks hols”, can you check emails please – or even use an automatic reply of “I’m out of the office, if you need ‘discipline/welfare/etc’ support please contact this person.

Interestingly the treasurer mailbox gets regular mails purportedly from other club officers asking to be given sums of money. Of course these are phishing scams and it’s up to you if you have some fun with them or simply ignore them.

How you respond to comments/mails is important. We get all kinds of stuff thrown around, so unless it’s really a simple response, you really have to able to say – “ok I hear what you’re saying, maybe it would help if you could put that in writing – no rants, just the facts and your request, then let me ask the committee and I’ll get back to you“. You have latitude as an officer, but if you’re not careful then you’ll end up with egg on your and the committee’s face.

You will be asked to attend monthly virtual committee meetings, but if you can’t attend a written report is fine. Either way a written update is pretty much mandatory as it means we don’t come to a meeting and hear surprises.
