Week 23 Previews – Key Weekend In Division One Title Race

Premier Division

This weekend’s fixtures sees league leaders Bassett Bulldogs up against Premier Division favourites, Tawny Owl in a top of the table clash. Bulldogs will be desperate to increase their current 3 point lead as Tawny have 6 games in hand over the leaders.

In a mid-table battle, Sportz Central play host to Ramsbury and with both the teams sitting in 5th and 6th in the league, with only 2 points separating them, it promises to be a very tight match.

Bottom side Spectrum will be need something special and a complete change in form to over come title chasing Deers Leap who are only a point behind the league leaders but have the benefit of a game in hand.

The remaining matches see Dorcan FC continue to chase a win as they visit Village Inn, whilst struggling side North Swindon take on Swindon Spitfires who will be full of confidence after their shock 2-1 away win against Bulldogs last weekend.

Division One

Our top two teams meet this weekend as the race for the Division One title gets serious! The hosts, Sport 4 Pinehurst are only 1 point behind the current leaders, Lynham but with a 3 games in hand, Lynham will be in desperate need of all 3 points if their title challenge is to stay on track.

After their controversial cup game, Old Town will be looking to get back to their winning ways as they take on Core Construction at home on Saturday who are looking for their 3rd successive win on the bounce.

Bottom side Swindon AFC, are running out of games to pull themselves off the bottom spot, a position they have held for the majority of the season. They take on Moredon FC who haven’t won a game in their last 9 outings and more recently, have leaked 22 goals in their last 4 games. Swindon AFC will be looking to take full advantage of an out of form defence and record their first win of this year.

Cup finalists, Wroughton Reserves have a tough ask as they host third place Lower Stratton who haven’t lost a game in their last 6 fixtures. Stratton have been in great form this season and seeing as they are still in the hunt for the title, they may have more to play for than their hosts who are likely to have one eye on the cup final.

The other fixtures in the division sees Haydon Wick and New Town All Stars battle it out in a 6 pointer game as they sit in 10th and 11th spot with only 3 points seperating them, whilst Stratton Juniors welcome a struggling Chiseldon.

Stratton have failed to find any sort of consitent form this season but will hope to get back to winning ways as they face a Chiseldon side that have only managed two wins so far this season. Chiseldon will be looking to end the season strongly as their remaining fixtures are all against teams who are in the bottom half of the table so will be looking to take something from this game.
