Wroughton Make the Final in Their First Season

Wroughton Reserves beat opponents Chiseldon 5-3 in the semi-finals of the George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup in their first ever season.

Wroughton found themselves going in at half time a goal down but Wroughton Manager Ian Leonard says they were never really too concerned.

We went 1-0 down and there wasn’t much panic from our side,” said Leonard.

They were with the wind in the first half and we always thought that in the second half, we would get back into the game with that in our favour”  he added

Wroughton team pulled themselves back in to the game on the 55th minute and took a comfortable 2 lead goal lead with in 10 minutes. Although Chiseldon managed to score twice in the second half through Lovell, a Jamie Pidgeon’s confidence building hat-trick and goals from Jordan Lea and Mike Thompson put them game beyond doubt.

With the club only forming last summer, a thrilled team manager Ian Leonard was over the moon with their achievement.

This side was only put together at the start of the season and they are a young side. We got together to see how it would pan out and it is going alright at the moment”

“It is nice to have a cup run for the morale of the group and to get to the cup final is a great achievement in our first season.”

We will have to wait to see who they will go up against in the final after the Deers Leap and Ramsbury fixture was abandoned mid match.
