S&DCFL Management Committee Roles

This page lists current roles on our Management Committee. We always welcome volunteers, regardless of whether a specific position is open. There’s plenty of work to support, and we greatly value help in all areas as part of our ongoing succession planning.

All roles are honorary. A token honorarium may be provided at the end of the season, subject to the league’s financial position and approval of the accounts at the AGM.

The S&DCFL committee roles cover:

President

Chairperson

League Secretary

Treasurer

Player Registration Officer

Results Officer

Referee Secretary

Discipline Officer

Cup Secretary

Fixture Secretary

Welfare Officer

Social Media Officer

Thinking of Joining the Committee?

We’re always happy to welcome new people onto the Management Committee, even if there’s no official vacancy listed. Longstanding ex-committee members are often appointed as Honorary Vice Presidents, and we’re proud of the continuity and community that brings.

But will you be comfortable on the committee? That really comes down to one key thing:

Communication is everything.

If you’re not up for responding to emails or engaging constructively, a formal committee role might not be for you. However, if you’re keen to help out in any way—without diving deep into admin, we still want you!
For example:

  • You’re artistic and love creating social media content
  • You’re great at organising events or tournaments
  • You’re a natural networker who can help get sponsors for your club

What’s expected?

  • You’ll be asked to use a league email address (e.g. secretary@sdfl.co.uk) and set it up on your phone, tablet, or laptop.
  • Promptly acknowledging league emails is important—even if the issue can wait a few days.
  • Responses to clubs or officials must be timely.
    • If you’re away, that’s fine—just let us know and we can cover your inbox. You can even use an auto-reply like:

“I’m currently away. For urgent matters relating to discipline/welfare/etc., please contact [Name].”

Passwords for league emails are recorded securely so others can step in if needed.

Handling Communications

Expect a mix. Some emails are straightforward, others less so. The key is to remain calm and constructive. If things get tense, a good line is:

“I hear what you’re saying. It would help if you could put your comments in writing—just the facts and your request—so I can share it with the committee and get back to you.”

You’ll have flexibility as a committee officer, but acting without care can lead to problems—for you and the whole committee.

Meetings and Reports

  • We hold monthly virtual committee meetings. If you can’t attend, that’s okay—but a written report is essential.
  • Written updates help everyone stay informed and avoid surprises.

If you’re still reading this, chances are you’d be a great fit. Let us know how you’d like to help and we’ll find the right spot for you!
