Match Report: Blunsdon -v- The Globe – Preseason Friendly

Match report from Blunsdon FC

Blunsdon’s 3rd pre season game of the 2019/20 campaigns saw them play out and entertaining 7 goal thriller against Globe FC a new side to the Swindon and District league. Globe edged their way to a 4-3 victory in a game of 2 half’s.

Blunsdon were there own worse enemy in the first half despite having a lot of the ball they couldn’t make it count in the areas that mattered. Instead of playing the football and passing game we have come to know from them over the past couple of years, they opted for long balls into the front 2 who were kept at bay by Globes centre backs. This style of play suited Globe who then hit Blunsdon on quick and speedy counter attacks and sadly Blunsdon found themselves 2-0 down at half time.

In the second half Blusndon started strong and were looking the team on top before a soft mistake gifted Globe a 3rd goal, making a mountain to climb for Blunsdon. But a never say die attitude saw Blusndon level the game with another brace from Eliot Wheatley who’s goals sandwiched Josh Skeates delightful finish as he beat the defence and dinked it over the Globe Keeper. Sadly the hard work and 3-3 scoreline was short lived as another mistake allowed Globe to regain the lead with 15 minuets to play, and despite a valiant effort Globe held on to win 4-3.

Blusndon made 3 changes in the second half with substitutes Kai Anderson, Kane Wheatley and Josh Skeates all coming on and really changed the game having a big impact on Blunsdon’s come back.

MOTM goes to Joel Swann who worked tirelessly tonight after nearly 2 years out of game due to a bad back injury.
It was great to see him back on the field, winning important headers and cutting out balls during the game. Also looked comfortable with the ball at his feet, it was clear to see what an asset he will be when he gains full match fitness, well done Joel.

Great pre season run out for the lads and well done Globe FC who set the bench mark early. They progress to the next round of the cup, we wish them well for the remainder of the competition.

Up the Blunny
