SDCFL to Honour Armistice Day

This weekend, the Swindon and District Community Football League will pay tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War I and all conflicts since.

As we commemorate Armistice Day, we ask all our member clubs to observe a minute’s silence before the start of every match.

This act of remembrance will take place to honour those who gave their lives in the pursuit of freedom and peace.

Armistice Day marks the end of World War I in 1918 when the guns fell silent across the Western Front. It is a time to reflect on the selfless service and sacrifice of countless soldiers who fought and died, many of whom were young men who once shared the same passion for football as our players today.

We encourage teams, players, officials, and supporters across the league to join together in unity, standing in silence to remember and pay our respects. This moment of reflection is a small but significant gesture, reminding us of the true cost of conflict and the importance of peace.

Whether you’re a player on the pitch, a coach on the sidelines, or a supporter in the stands, we invite you all to take part in this act of remembrance. Let’s stand together as a community, showing our gratitude for those who sacrificed so much for the lives we enjoy today.

We thank all our clubs for their cooperation in marking this important occasion. Lest we forget.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn;
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
