The Swindon and District Football League are celebrating their 125th year Anniversary this year.
To commemorate this momentous occasion, we will be showing our appreciation to everybody that has contributed to grass root football in the area of the years.
We are celebrating this auspicious Birthday at our end of season Cup Finals on Saturday 6th May, at the Royal Wootton Bassett Sports Association complex, one of Swindon’s Premier Sporting arenas.
125 Year Celebration Schedule
The event will commence at 11.00 with the George Thomas / Don Rogers Cup Final followed by a Legends game and Swindon Advertiser Cup Final. The event will conclude with the closing speeches and award ceremony for the competition winners.
The speeches will honour the Leagues connections with the County Football Association at grassroots. With their help we maintain the continual development of clubs in our League for the sustainable success of its member Clubs.
We will also look to recognise the achievements of those who built our foundations, and to inspire those who seek to build on the League’s future success. We want to celebrate the contributions of volunteers, players, referees, local businesses, and League Officers, to sustain the Leagues advancement as without these individuals, there would be no league.
Finally, the celebrations are there to show the strength and passion of grassroots football in Swindon so we can continue to support its growth, vitality, and future, under the guidance of the League.
Entertainment
We recognise that people lead busy lives but we hope to encourage as many of you as we can to join us with a variety of entertainment during the day, aside from the two cup final matches. The entertainment confirmed so far include:
- Majorettes
- Inflatable fun for children
- Legends Football match featuring local sports personalities
- Fully licensed bar
- Hot snacks (available in the RWBFC Club house from 11 am).
Hall Of Fame
To celebrate 125 years of grassroots football in Swindon, we are introducing a “Hall Of Fame“.
It is very easy to quickly forget people’s contributions to the league and football in general at grassroots levels and whilst we do have Vice-Presidents, we wish to build on our archive of contributors with local personalities from grassroot football in Swindon.
Without the help and work of the army of people who organise and run football teams across the district, we wouldn’t have the successful league that we have today.
We would like to welcome people to submit their nominations for the “Hall Of Fame“. The entrants can be anyone who has played in or been involved with the running of teams or the league over the years or has even been a dedicated support of your local club.
Who Is Invited?
The League Committee are working hard at the moment to make this celebration a success. We are inviting all league Member Club’s players and Management to come along with their families and friends to enjoy as much of the day with us.
