The Premier Division title has been won by Blunsdon FC with an almost perfect record after 15 wins and only 1 draw all season.
Blunsdon lifted the title having only dropped 2 points all season after a 3-3 draw with second placed Nine Elms. What was equally impressive was the incredible +49 goal difference having scored 62 goals in 16 games whilst only conceding 13 occasions.
With so many goals scored, it isn’t surprising to see 4 of the top 10 goals scorers in the Premier division were from Blunsdon, with Lee Toomey picking up the Premier division Golden Boot award with 19 goals in 17 appearances.
After such an impressive season, Blunsdon 1st team will be taking the step up to county football next season as they look to take the well earned promotion up to the Wiltshire Senior League whilst the Development team will remain with the SDFL.
After such a fantastic season a spokesperson from Blunsdon said: “In what is just our 4th season in the SDFL, 2 of which were hit/ disrupted by the Covid pandemic, this is a truly superb achievement for the club.
A really big THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed in making this possible. It’s been hard work but something everyone can be very proud of.
To each and every player especially those involved over the past 4 seasons, but also back to when the team reformed nearly 10 seasons ago now. You have all been a real credit to our club, and without you none of this would be possible today.”
Talking about their time in the SDFL there were lots of positives and highlights to look back on: “It’s been a fantastic 4 seasons for us in the SDFL, Winning Division 1 in 2019 our first full season in the league, then gaining promotion to the Premier Division to then Winning the Primer Division in 2022.
Without the hard work that the SDFL committee put in, there wouldn’t be Saturday football in Swindon and opportunities like this could be few and far between. You are a credit to the league, and we thank you for the platform you have provided which has helped us gain promotion”
Their time with SDFL isn’t quite over just yet as they are in to the quarter finals of the Spring Cup and will be representing the SDFL in the Wiltshire Junior Cup final against Tisbury United.
The SDFL would like to wish Blunsdon 1st team all the very best in the seasons ahead and have no doubt they will be more than able to compete at the next level on the football ladder.
