BulletIn 20th Oct – League Dev Day, Player Welfare Course, Committee Contact Update

LEAGUE DEVELOPMENT DAY

I attended with Martyn, and we are currently digesting all the information received during and after the Development Day and workshops. The focus was on the big challenges facing Leagues at all levels of the game – identity, governance, finance, football development, commercial and work-force.

We were advised how to self-assess our own Leagues challenges, so at our committee meeting this week we presented to our Management Committee, the many topics covered, the opportunities gleaned, and issued questionnaires to our Officers to determine our priorities? We will have something to share with you all in the very near future.

In the meantime, here are some interesting facts.

More teams (all football), are continuing to affiliate with the FA, currently 109,375, but while more teams are affiliating the number of Clubs are declining. Teams within clubs have increased by 20%, club numbers decreased by 16%.

There are now 223 clubs that have over 40 teams, predicted to be 350 by 2028.

Clubs are becoming embedded with their community providing football and many social outcomes.

The same is happening with Leagues. Big Leagues are getting bigger- there are 9 Leagues with over 1000 teams. Smaller Leagues are becoming less. The needs of Leagues are changing.

In your opinion, how are we doing?

Your honest feedback will assist us to determine our priorities?
