Team History
In our first season of competing, we had a slow start in the 2nd division of the Swindon and District league and struggled to put together a regular 11 players which was reflective in the results.
After managing to bring some stability to the team, results started to improve and points were being picked up. By the end of the season, we had finally started to gel and went on a 4 game unbeaten run to end the season.
This included handing the league champions Redhouse with their only defeat of the season.
Our run in the cup could have been better as we bowed out at the Quarter Finals in the George Thomas Cup.
How has preseason gone?
Pre-season started as you’d expect, bedding in new players and giving trialists game time to show what they can do whist also ensuring the remaining squad was rotated to give everyone game time.
This in itself can bring disruption to games and stop the flow of football but is something that needs to be done to ensure everyone gains some match fitness.
We’ve played teams from the Premier divisions and accounted for ourselves very well, culminating in a comprehensive 9-2 victory against last seasons Div 2 champions Redhouse.
New Signings
Most importantly for us, we have also retained the whole squad from last season which is partially down to the great atmosphere we have within the team.
We haven’t stood still in terms of recruitment however and have added some much needed depth to the squad with the signings of:
Alex Davies (Goalkeeper)
Damien Gwandezi (Forward)
James Bain (Midfielder)
Our expectations and plans are to complete for the title and to help us try and achieve that, we are still pursuing a few other signings before the start
Expectations for the season
On the back of a great run at the end of last season, we have high expectations and will be looking for promotion to the Swindon District Premier division at a minimum
It is always good to have a cup run to distract from the league competition so we will be hoping for a good run, but our focus will be on promotion.
Long Term Plans
We really want to gain promotion to the Swindon & District Premier division and establish ourselves there as a team who are more than able to compete at this level.
Once we achieve this we will see what other avenues, opportunities and options are available to us, but we will take each season as it comes.
Predictions for league winners
We certainly want to be contenders ourselves but we expect Cricklade Res will be up there.
You would also expect Marlborough Town Res, Lower Stratton & Swindon AFC to be very strong and fancying their changes of picking up the winners medals.
