Core Construction Hit 10 To Earn First Win

Core Construction earned their first win of their Swindon & District Division One campaign as they thumped Swindon AFC 10-3, writes Josh Bird.

Liam Kearns bagged a hat-trick with Carl Woodhams (2), Todd Mears (2), Desmond Keville, Neil Mitcham and Daryl Harring all getting in on the act.

And Core Construction boss Dayne Lewis was delighted to see his side secure their first three points.

“It was a relief to get our first win but I think we’ve been quite unlucky in some other games,” he said.

“The first half only finished 2-1 so it was a good battle.

“But I think in the second half we kept the ball a lot better and ended up grinding them down.

“But all due respect to Swindon AFC because they did dig in and make it hard for us.

“Carl Woodhams in the second was excellent, he was creating all the chances for us.

“I think we are starting to click now, we’ve made a few new signings and it’s just been about trying to get the balance right.”

Due to the Wiltshire Cup, only one other league game took place as Lyneham moved to the top of Division One courtesy of a 6-1 victory at Haydon Wick.

Yasuhiro Ohno was on target for the home side in the first half, halving the deficit after a fast start from Lyneham.

And despite creating chances and missing a penalty through Adam Ford, Haydon Wick could not keep pace with their visitors who eventually ran out comfortable winners.

In the Wiltshire Cup there was progress for Bassett Bulldogs as they saw off fellow Premier Division side Deers Leap 2-1 courtesy of goals from Nick Harrison and Jason Hudson.

Lower Stratton, Spectrum, Swindon Spitfires and Tawny Owl have also progressed to the third round following weekend victories.

But there was no such luck for Ramsbury who were knocked out on penalties by Calne Eagles with Moredon, Chiseldon, Village Inn and Swindon Centurians also crashing out.
