It is quarter final day in the #SDFL with 16 teams battling it out across the Up A Ladder Cup and Don Rogers Plate this afternoon.
We asked our twitter followers to predict who they think will win each of the quarter final games and the results made for some fascinating reading. Seems followers expect a couple of “walk in the park” games as well as a few that could go either way but no doubt there will be some tough battles before we know who makes it in to the semi finals.
Up A Ladder Cup Predictions
The Cup competition votes seems to predict two very tight games and two “easier” games based on the poll results.
The closest of the ties sees Nalgo Sports hosting Down Ampney and the poll seem unable to split the two sides. Nalgo finished 3rd in the Premier division last season but have struggled in the cup so far having lost 7-3 against Chiseldon in their group game.
Down Ampney finished 3rd in Division 1 but could have finished runners up if they had beaten Chisledon last weekend in their final game of the season. They were unable to overcome the Division 1 winners and lost 1-0 which suggests we have a cracking game on our hands this afternoon.
Hatherop make the trip to Ashton Keynes and, with both teams finishing mid-table in the Premier division, it seems it is difficult to pick a winner although the polls suggest Ashton Keynes should just get over the line.
The remaining two games has Blunsdon and Chiseldon as clear favourites as they line up against Priory Vale and Highworth Town Dev respectively.
With the favourites in these games winning their division titles, confidence will be on their side but when it comes to knock out football, anything can happen.
Don Rogers Plate Predictions
Predictions in the Plate competitions seem a lot more definitive with all 4 fixtures showing clear favourites.
Basset Bulldogs and Shield & Dagger are firm favourites as the Bulldogs welcome Ramsbury and Dagger host Blunsdon Dev.
Ramsbury and Blunsdon Dev might feel they have been written off but, after some good performances during their league campaign, will still feel there is a chance to progress in to the next round.
KO Plastering had a solid season in Division 2 finishing 4th whilst also topping their Cup group. They take on a Lower Stratton side who struggled to find form in Division 1 but did finish their Plate group game beating Cricklade Res 3-1 to progress to the quarter finals.
The last quarter final game is an all Division 1 line up as Intel welcome Spectrum and on paper, it should be a very competitive game. The polls suggest Intel take the win and progress to the next round but Spectrum will have other ideas and will look to build momentum after topping their Plate group with 2 wins out of 2.
