Last year’s GT/DR Cup winners Shield & Dagger went one better and beat Nationwide in the District Cup whilst in a curious turnaround last year’s ‘Up a Ladder‘ cup winners Chiseldon came down a peg to beat Bassett Bulldogs in the George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup.
2021-2 Cup Final Programme. The Up A Ladder cup & the George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup.
Shield & Dagger beat Bassett Bulldogs in the George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup, and Chiseldon went on to beat Hatherop in the Up A Ladder Cup
There was no final 2019-20 because of Covid and the 2020-21 Final was a rushed affair, without the overhead of a programme.
This was the one that caused all sorts of problems. Fratellos played Ruby Removals in the semi-final of the Adver Cup. The League penalised Ruby for playing an ineligible player. However, Ruby appealed to the FA and bizarrely, the FA ruled in their favour. Ruby lost in the final to Bakers Arms, but Fratellos left the league the following season.
This was our 125th year. The Britannia majorettes did us proud and we had a bouncy castle
2015-16 were the first finals we held at Royal Wootton Bassett. I seem to remember Bulldogs beating DJC Marlborough, but don’t recall how Fratellos got on against Avtar Construction
These were the last finals we held at Swindon Supermarine in South Marston. We’d always been well looked after by the folk there, particularly Steve Webb, but a combination of booking costs and pitch availability moved us to the now “Royal” (from 2011) Wootton Bassett for subsequent years.
Fratellos & Queensfield again. Always good to see our old friends at Lower Stratton vs Old Town United. No ideas, so share any stories you have with us.
Thanks to Dave Page for supplying this. A true stalwart of the league, Dave has been recognised a number of times as club secretary of the year. His commitment to his club and grass roots football in Swindon is an example for anyone to follow. His club, Spectrum, beat Old Town United to win the George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup. Keep up the good work Dave. Kevin Small refereed the Adver final won by Queensfield, and either Graham Dancer or Keith Butler refereed the GTDR. The programme says Keith, but the record in the History shows Graham. It shows how important the roles of a curator/archivist are, lets get it right before we lose our collective memory eh?
Slightly dog-eared upload, but nevertheless this is the complete publication
So we are missing a handful, and any earlier issues. If anyone can help then contact the league and we’ll update our history to share with you all.
