Founded by Graham Hatherall back in the 1970’s, Eric Smith took on the reigns shortly after and was at the helm for many years before the management committee took on the responsibility for running the club in the year 2000.
Eric’s legacy was to build a good foundation for the club both financially and in its structure, and all the current members of the management committee, who have served the club in some capacity over the last 35 years, have continued to support the club. Alan Spring who is the current manager is now in his 25th year of Management.
The club has been playing its football at Grange Drive since its inception, even before the current community centre was built back in 1978. Lower Stratton Service Station and Gavin Kay have been arethe proud sponsors of its kit and the club are very appreciative for their support.
Lower Stratton for many years operated 2 teams in Wiltshire County League and Swindon and District Leagues, and during that time they have been successful in gaining promotion to higher divisions. They have also featured in cup finals of cup competitions in the Faringdon Memorial Cup, Evening Advertiser Cup and George Thomas Cup Finals. Finally in 2014 the club achieved success as winners of the George Thomas Memorial cup but in the same year they were crowned as champions of Division 1 and promoted to the premier league.
Lower Stratton now has 1 team which trades it’s wears in the Swindon and District Premier League. Last season they finished mid –table and were knocked out in in the semi-finals of the Advertiser Cup.
The club have some good potential and this season we are aiming for a higher league position and a good run in one of the cup competitions.
