Match Report from Priory Vale
Priory Vale 1-1 Ashton Keynes (4-5 on penalties)
⚽️ OG 🅰️ Corey Verona
🏆 MOTM – Dave Murray
What we knew would be a difficult game on paper, proved to be that with both sides playing some very good passing football but with neither side creating many clear cut chances.
As we finished last season, a huge emphasis was on playing it out from the back which 9/10 – we done perfectly. Ashton Keynes caught on us on the counter attack and scored with a well worked goal just before the break to go in at 1-0 up.
The second half was more of the same, we played some very good football and continued to play it out from the back, but as we pressed for an equaliser we left ourselves open to the counter attack. Some last ditch defending from Tommo & Luigi kept the game at 1-0.
After a formation reshuffle to 3-4-3 in order to get something from the game we forced the equaliser, a ball in from Corey Verona and Craig Smith put the keeper under pressure who tried to buy a foul and threw the ball into the net – goal given with 2 minutes remaining.
As per the competition rules we went straight to penalties, the first 2 from both sides scoring before Jimma hit the post, the next 3 penalties we all scored and Ashton Keynes progress into the next round.
We go again Saturday away to Marlborough Town First Team with plenty of positives to take from tonight.
