🏆 Nick Welch – MOTM

Game 1 of the new season saw us away to Spectrum, who finished 3rd in the division last year.

We started the game strong, passing very well and finding gaps in behind the Spectrum defence, however after around 15 minutes we found ourselves 1-0 down thanks to a rocket of a free kick into the top corner, giving Spectrum the lead with their first shot on target.

The first half continued to be the same throughout, we dominated possession making chance after chance whilst managing to isolate their lone striker when they got forward.

Nick Welch pulled us back in to the game with a precise finish into the far top corner from outside the box, after some classy build up play. Soon after he got his second goal with a good finish from close range, giving Priory the lead going in to half time.

The second half we emphasised on not starting slow and and moving forward to finish the game off, our 3rd goal came from an in swinging corner, Luigi Hernandez’s header was blocked on the line and, the fox in the box, James Lovell finished from close range to finally give us a bit of breathing space.

The rest of the half continued the same way but frustratingly we couldn’t finish our chances to kill the game off. Whilst Spectrum didn’t offer us to many issues, they remained a constant threat with the direct ball to their strikers, who were more than capable of finding the net.

However, our defence stood strong and we continued to control the game until the final whilst.

Next week we host recently proclaimed title favourites AFC Swindon.
