Old Town United have made it through to the Swindon Advertiser Cup final after thrashing Haydon Wick in this weekends semi final tie.
Old Town’s Ashley Bragg and Aaron Williams got two goals each in their 7-1 victory over their oppenents, with Chris Reade, Jesse McGowan and Alex Hammond also scoring. With Haydon Wick’s Lee Gratton getting the clubs only goal.
Manager Chris Wood said: “It was a fantastic result. It’s what we set out to do at the start of the season as everyone wants to get to the cup final”
“During the first 10 minutes, it was a 50-50 game, but after we took the lead, we were pretty comfortable.
“It was 4-1 at half-time so we were well in control – they were down to 10 men too as they’d lost a man through injury. A lack of numbers did hurt them but I think we expected to beat them going into it anyway.” he added
Haydon Wick lost another player to injury, leaving them with just 9 men on the field and the task proved impossible for them.
Wood is well aware his side will be going into the final as the underdogs, as they will be going up against Tawny Owl, who remain undefeated this season.
Wood’s is not concerned though, and after what has been an unbelievable season so far, is feeling extremely confident.
“It’s looking very strong for us at the moment and a possible double is what we were hoping for when we got everyone together at the start of the season,” he said.
“It’s been a great season so far and everything is going well on the pitch so we just have to keep going now.
“Tawny Owl are a very fine team – I don’t think they’ve even drawn a game yet, let alone lost one, so that shows how good they are.
“We will be big underdogs but it’s a cup game over 90 minutes so anything can happen. I think we are the best equipped team over the two divisions to beat them so will just see how it goes.”
The final is set to be a thrilling match and will take place later this season.
