Perfect 10 For Old Town

Old town united make it 10 games unbeaten with comfortable win in there top of the table clash against Sport 4 Pinehurst.

Both teams started the game with a steely grit and determination in the opening 15 minutes with both teams pressing for the opening goal.

An entertaining opening soon paved way for the first goal of the game which came after 20 minutes in Old Towns favour curtosey of Anton Webb. An Old Town corner was met by the head of Webb who has lost his marker through so great movement and headed home at the near post.

With the momentum with United, they started to create chance after chance but it was some resolute defending from Pinehurst and some fantastic saves from their keeper that kept the scores at 1 – 0 going in at the half.

With Old Town begining to dominate proceedings, it was only a matter of time before their lead was increased. Aaron Williams timed a perfect run to beat the defenders and pick up a well timed through ball. A snapshot from Williams was well saved by the Pinehurst keeper but he could only push the ball up in to the air and Wiliams was able to head home from close range.

Williams doubled his goal tally for the day 5 minutes later after some slick passing from Old Town found Williams in space for him to cooly slot home to make it 3-0.

With Pinehurst struggling to see much of the ball United created chance after chance. A clumsy challenge from the Pinehurst defender on Williams gives the ref no choice but to award the penalty which Jesse McGowan due converted giving Old Town a comprehensive 4-0 victory.

This was a big game for both sides and the win sees United move clear at the top of the table by 5 points. Speaking after the victory, Old Town United Chris Wood was pleased with the performance:

It was important that we came away with the points.” said Wood.

We have been playing catch-up from the start of the season when we handed Sports 4 Pinehurst a walk over. Now the league is in our hands, its ours too lose.

Now we have to keep are consistency and keep playing football the right way. The squad we have this season is getting stronger every week and is strong enough to take us on in this league.

We are playing some fantastic football and more importantly we are enjoying it.
