SDCFL Cup: Player Eligibility Rules

As we head into the Swindon & District Community Football League Cup competitions, it’s important for all clubs and managers to review and adhere to the player eligibility rules.

We want to ensure a fair and smooth competition for everyone involved. Below is a reminder of the key eligibility requirements that must be followed:

Key Eligibility Rules for Cup Matches:

  1. Player Registration Deadline:
    • All players must be registered with their respective clubs on or before 1st October of each season to be eligible for cup matches.
  2. 72-Hour Registration Rule:
    • Players must have been registered with their club at least 72 hours prior to the original date set for the round. Late registrations will not be considered eligible.
  3. One Club, One Cup:
  4. Senior Competition Rule:
    • Players who have participated in senior competitions (higher leagues) after the start of the SDCFL season are ineligible to play in SDCFL cup matches. This includes:However, playing in the Wiltshire County Junior Cup or participating in senior league matches before the SDCFL season starts does not impact eligibility.
Note: Wiltshire Divisions One and Hellenic Division 2 are considered of equal standing to the SDCFL and do not fall under the senior competition restriction.
  5. Clarification on Playing a Match:
    • For a player to be considered ineligible, they must have actively participated in a match. Being listed as a substitute without actually playing does not count toward eligibility.

What This Means for Your Team:

It’s crucial that all teams double-check their squad lists and ensure every player meets these requirements before cup fixtures. Failure to comply may result in disqualification from the competition or other disciplinary actions as per league rules.

Final Reminder:

If you’re unsure about the eligibility of a player, please consult the league officials before the match day. Let’s work together to keep the competition fair and enjoyable for all clubs involved.

Good luck to everyone as the cup journey begins!
