The Swindon & District Community Football League is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Stuart Withers, who was a cherished member of the local football community. Stuart was tragically killed in an accident in Salisbury on 22nd November.
Stuart’s commitment to grassroots football was unparalleled. He joined the Wiltshire League Management Committee in 1999 and became Vice-Chairman in 2006. His dedication extended far beyond his league role, as he served as a player, manager, and ultimately the Chairman of Shrewton United. His passion and tireless efforts left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working with him.
Yesterday, Shrewton United and Trowbridge Town came together to honor Stuart’s memory with a minute’s silence before their game. Both teams wore black armbands as a mark of respect. Shrewton United secured a 3-1 victory in a match filled with emotion and unity.
In remembrance of Stuart, the SDCFL will observe a minute’s silence before all matches next weekend on Saturday, 30th November 2024. We encourage everyone to join us in paying tribute to a man whose contributions to our football community will never be forgotten.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Stuart’s family, friends, colleagues at Shrewton United, and all who knew him. His legacy will forever be a part of our league and the wider football family.
Rest in peace, Stuart Withers.
