Fees & Fines Updates For 2022/2023 Season

SDFL Finances

As discussed and approved at the AGM, the following are a list of Fees & Fine changes that will come in to force from the start of the 2022/2023 season.

In an attempt to be as open, honest and transparent as possible, we wanted to publish these changes along with questions and comments raised related to these changes.

Changes to Fees Tariff

A question was raised around the increase in player registration fees. The following is an abstract from the communication sent out from the league to the clubs:

The proposed fee ( £3 ) was to bring us in line with what other Leagues have been charging. The £1 fee was put place in when the League was introduced. The reasoning for the early notification was to discuss any feedback at our May Management Committee meeting, as we never make decisions regarding rules and pricing without first listening to what our clubs have to say, first?.

As you know I wasn’t present this week at the AGM, but reading the minutes of the AGM it confirms that the £3 was unanimously carried by the club membership, with no objections, and why Colin sent out the notice regarding the Registration fees yesterday.

The League has had to tighten its own belt over the last couple of years, with the pandemic curtailing 2 seasons, when we didn’t charge for membership/cup competitions. We must get back on track, but instead of increasing charges across the board, we wanted to make it easier on the clubs budgets.

We understand how difficult things are getting for everybody at the moment, there seems no end to increases on fuel, energy, food costs, and the League running costs are no different.

It is best practice to charge players to be part of the squad, with a nominal signing on fee, and with the League player registration fee taken from that signing on fee, therefore not  detrimental to your club finances?

I hope that helps to explain why these measures have been taken. We have never been a League to overcharge clubs, we try and keep things affordable, but we are charged with looking after the members money, not necessarily to make a profit, but to sustain grassroots Football in Swindon.”

Changes to Fines Tariff

Questions were asked at the AGM around Fine increases which was discussed and approved by the voting clubs. The following is taken from the minutes of the AGM in an attempt to be as transparent as possible:

In respect of the point made from the floor that leeway will be given although this clearly depends on how the club communicates. The committee are not desperate to apply discipline
and appeals are always possible.

It’s should always be possible for clubs to “reverse” fixtures. Games called off for pitch reasons in particular should be expected to be played at an alternative venue rather than simply called off.

The committee would reasonably expect a match that doesn’t follow this simple principle to get games played, to penalise the offending club and charge the costs for the rescheduled fixture to be awarded if an appeal or challenge is made.

All fees and fines amendments were accepted with no objections other than what is mentioned above.”
